Design Workshop

I recently had the opportunity to give a design workshop for a lovely group of BTEC students, on behalf of the Design Initiative, for their Design Stars project. It was a great experience and the students were bright and receptive. I’m definitely looking forward to more of the same. These are some of the nice comments, from the graphic design teacher, following my workshop.

“Annie’s understanding of the graphic industry and the different variations that they can move into from this point was invaluable. My students are now using the techniques discussed in the workshop for the new unit of their BTEC course which needs to be client lead. I hope that we can see her again in the future.”

Giving a workshop is a great reminder of why I enjoy working in the design industry so much.

V&A Hollywood Costumes

It has taken over 10 years to track down and dust off some of the most iconic costumes in show business for this fascinating collection. One of the curators behind the showcase is Hollywood costume designer Deborah Nadoolman Landis whose own credits include The Blues Brother’s and Michael Jackson’s Thriller.

It’s an amazing opportunity to see original costumes worn by characters such as Dorothy, Indiana Jones, Scarlett O’Hara, Jack Sparrow, Holly Golightly and Darth Vader. Book tickets from the V&A website. Exhibition runs 20 October 2012 – 26 January 2013.

Spa Hotel work on a billboard

Look what I saw getting off the bus in Manchester, near Piccadilly Gardens! A logo I designed for The Spa Hotel at Ribby Hall Village on their Christmas campaign, lit up across a huge billboard. A nice surprise!

Check out the website of the very talented Julia Pott. Not only have I her prints on my wall but she has also she produced work for one of my favourite bands The Decemberists (and I’ve just purchased a set of her Christmas cards on Esty – obsessed?).
